Florina Lungu - Your Most Important 3 Pounds

I want to see if you know the answer to this question.

Which of your organs carries the most responsibility?

Your heart delivers blood to the rest of your body. Your lungs extract oxygen from the air you breathe. Your kidneys clean, your liver detoxifies, and your spleen fights germs to keep you healthy.

We call all of these the vital organs… so one of them must have the most important job, right?

Actually, the job of your brain has got them each beat.

Your brain controls all of these organs and their vital processes – all without you having to do anything. Plus, it controls the whole rest of your body – nervous system, immune system, digestive system, endocrine (hormone) system…

And not only your body, either.

Your relationships. Your occupation. Your schedule. Your interests. The complicated marvel that is your life… your brain runs it all.

Brains run the stock market, Fortune 500 companies, schools and universities, churches, hospitals, and governments. Brains are behind every policy, every invention, and every organisation.

Brains are pretty important!

Sure, we are multi-layered beings that need all kinds of upkeep. But if you look at all the responsibilities of the brain, the conclusion is clear: the brain is the most underappreciated and undernourished organ in your body.

We cannot see it, feel it functioning, or physically sense its byproducts. And this means we often forget it needs considerate care.

But we must keep it top-of-mind because the decisions we make each day can be drastically limiting our ability to function.

Below is a list of lifestyle choices that, if left unchecked, can badly damage your brain. How many apply to you?

  • Partaking of harmful or addictive substances like tobacco, drugs, and alcohol
  • Stress
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Excessive caffeine intake
  • Obesity, bad food habits, and lack of physical activity
  • Negative environment or thought habits
  • Unhealthy relationships
  • Head trauma

Even one of these factors not cared for can keep you from enjoying the full functioning of your brain. But if we’re honest with ourselves, most of us will see ourselves reflected back in 3, 4, or even more of these brain-poisoning behaviours.

If we do not care for our brains, our brains cannot care for us… and since the brain has such a big job, that spells trouble for us.

The less healthy our brain is, the more our cognition and physical function decreases… the less we can work, play, perform, enjoy, and relax as we are meant to…

The less we are capable of expressing ourselves, the less satisfaction we find in life…

The worse our memory and physical ability become…

And worst of all, our decisions become worse, too. That means we make even more poor brain health choices, which makes the whole situation even more dire.

So pay some careful attention this week…

Keep track of the choices you make and how the choices you make, make you feel.

Do you feel more or less alert when you eat sugary foods? Do you feel better-eating protein?

Do you sleep better when your stomach is full or when it is not churning through digestion?

Are you more productive after a week of getting 8 full hours of sleep? (This one will change your life – take my word for it!)

How does your body respond when you replace anxious thoughts with hopeful ideas?

Once you start feeling the difference in the functioning of your brain, you will want to make even more changes day by day.

There is nothing that beats the feeling of a healthy brain at the top of its game.

Make today your masterpiece!
