Florina Lungu - How you can stay motivated

I hope you’ve had a pleasant and healthy week!

In my last article, I told you about the Fork in the Road. It was an exercise to help you look into the future to see what your life could be like if you made healthy decisions every day.

Today, I want to walk you through doing an exercise that helps bridge the gap between tomorrow’s results and today’s acts.

Sometimes our moment-by-moment moods and thoughts, or impulses, overtake our long-term goals. This is one of the greatest struggles of trying to live healthy. For this reason, we need to keep motivation at the forefront of our minds.

We all have our own reasons for doing the things we do, the good things and the bad things. If you want to make good decisions, you should have a clear understanding of your reasons for making those wise choices.

Let me introduce you to the One-Page Miracle. It is your plan for your life, written shortly and sweetly, defined by the things you truly want – the most accurate reflection of your deep desires, not influenced by impulse. It is used to remind you to act in favour of what is most important to you.

One a piece of paper (or in a word processor), written down what you want most in your…

1. Relationships

Ask yourself: Who are the most important people in your life? What do you want to prioritize in your relationships with them? What do you want to be able to do with them, or for them, in the future?

For example, I want to have a passionate, caring relationship with my husband and a harmonious relationship with my parents and siblings. Sometimes, if I am feeling irritable, I may be tempted to say something unhelpful that could compromise that desire; if I keep that goal in my mind, I can let the feeling pass and focus on what’s more important.

2. Schooling & career

What do you love to do? What do you want to accomplish in the arenas of education or profession? What practical impact do you want to have on others?

I wanted to be a doctor and help people live their best lives, so while my friends partied I had to study. And today, I continue to keep good choices at the front of my awareness so I can set a good example for my clients and patients.

3. Finances

What does financial freedom look like for you? What do you want to be able to do with your money? What are your financial priorities?

I want to be able to explore life, experience new things, and help provide for my family. I want to feel in control of my finances, so I want to tell my money where to go and direct it intentionally.

4. Physical health

How do you want to feel? What do you want your body to be able to do? How do you want to be able to function mentally?

This is obviously an area I am very passionate about. Any one of these areas can affect the rest of them, but this one has such a major impact on them all – a major impact that we can easily affect in our daily habits.

I want to be able to keep up with my energetic kids and grandkids one day. I want to have the motility to raise them and the memory and focus to be there for them. I want to be able to make good decisions, and for that I need to be able to think clearly, sort through my emotions – all things I can ensure with the right actions today.

5. Emotional health

How do you want to feel emotionally? Which emotions are the most important for you to pursue and how can you do this in a healthy way?

I want to be emotionally stable, positive, and productive. I also want my contentment to support the contentment of those close to me.

6. Spiritual health

How do you want to walk in step with something greater than yourself? How does spiritual awareness look in your day-to-day life?

I want to be connected to my purpose in life and listen to my intuition.

This exercise helps you see the connection between today’s actions and tomorrow’s circumstances. Longevity studies show that people with clearly defined goals like this are able to act positively toward them consistently and that they have more success in their lives overall.

Write your statements concisely; make the sentences power-packed with meaning and imagery. You want to be able to read it quickly and have it leave an emotional impact on you. Read it every day to center yourself on your “why” and watch your habits change!

Make today your masterpiece!
