Start with a question.
It is two in the morning and you are typing a question into a search bar.
Maybe it is about you. Maybe it is about your child, your partner, the friend who stopped answering messages. The internet will give you ten thousand answers, half of them selling something, the other half frightening you.
This page is my answer to that night. One question at a time, answered the way I would if you were sitting across from me. I will tell you what I know, what I do not know, and what is yours to do. I will not sell you a diagnosis, and I will not promise healing… I offer understanding, and understanding is where recovery begins.
One honest line before you read. If a question touches your medication, nothing here replaces the conversation with your own prescriber. I write to help you ask better questions in that room, never to replace it.
Getting a diagnosis, or questioning one
- I think I have ADHD. What do I actually do now?
- Is it ADHD, or is it trauma, anxiety, bad sleep?
- Why is everyone suddenly getting diagnosed?
- Should I pay privately to skip the waiting list?
- Am I depressed, or am I burned out?
- Do I need a diagnosis to get help?
- Can a diagnosis be wrong, and can it be changed?
Medication, honestly
- Do antidepressants and ADHD medication actually work?
- Why didn’t my medication fix things the way I hoped?
- Will I take this forever?
- The side effects nobody warned me about
- Can I get better without medication?
The body underneath
- Can low iron, vitamin D or B12 look like depression?
- How much does sleep change mental health?
- Can food, sugar and alcohol change my brain?
- What is chronic stress doing to my brain?
- Why am I tired even when I sleep?
Trauma and the self
- What is trauma, really?
- Why do I feel numb?
- Can you grow up in a good family and still be wounded?
- What if there was never anything wrong with me?
Everyday questions
- Do I actually need a psychiatrist?
- Psychiatrist, psychologist or therapist… who do I go to?
- How do I help someone who will not admit they are struggling?
- Can mental illness be prevented?
- What is one thing I can do today for my brain?
